After 2014, Maharashtra entered a golden age of progress with a surge in the infrastructure development projects across the length and breadth of the state under the leadership of new CM Devendra Fadnavis, whom people fondly started calling the ‘Infra Man’ of Maharashtra.
His regimes gave us marquee projects one after another, like Mumbai Metro, Samruddhi Mahamarg, Atal Setu, Mumbai Coastal Road, Vadhvan Port, MIHAN Project, Smart Cities, and more.
As for the rural and district-level infrastructure, the state saw a renewed push in building scores of roads connecting rural areas to district towns, including the ones leading to the palaces of Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan, with flyovers and multimodal hubs.
The focus of the Devendra Fadnavis government on creating world-class infrastructure in the state to attract investment started a new infrastructure era in Maharashtra. During his 1st term as the CM of Maharashtra, from 2014 to 2019, the state topped the FDI inflows in the country. The next two and a half years, during the MVA government, the FDI inflow to Maharashtra was at its lowest. With the return of Fadnavis as the Dy. CM, the state again rose to its earlier position to attract record FDI inflows. This speaks volumes about Fadnavis’ drive for infrastructure development and investment-friendly policies of the state and his entrepreneurial leadership.
However, Devendra Fadnavis’ contribution as the Infra Man of Maharashtra was not limited to infrastructure alone, but it’s about the holistic development of the state. He also initiated many big-ticket water management and conservation projects like Jalyukt Shivar, the Marathwada water grid, and river-linking projects in the state to provide irrigation and drinking water in drought-affected areas. All his projects have far-reaching impacts on the people and future prosperity of the state, as they are based on thorough research to produce tangible results within the stipulated time frame.
