Wardha has a giant past and long traditions of culture, education, and agriculture. Its discovered history dates back to the Maurya period! However, this once important district, which also carved out a place for itself in the Indian freedom struggle, was relegated to oblivion due to lack of development for many decades until the Devendra Fadnavis era began in Maharashtra. After 2014, driven by several strategic and visionary decisions of the Fadnavis government for the region, the district put a brake on its slide and took a turn towards development. In stark contrast to the sheer negligence under the previous governments, Wardha started receiving a sustained focus with multiple big-ticket projects, including the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway, the proposed Wardha-Goa Shaktipeeth Highway, the Wardha-Nanded Railway Line, and the Wardha Dry Port, along with large hospitals and solar power projects. With schemes to directly benefit farmers and boost local industries, Wardha has started its journey as an agri-logistics hub and an industrial district. Today, the district is making rapid progress in several areas, such as health, agriculture, infrastructure, irrigation, logistics, energy, and administration, thanks to the visionary leadership and political will of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Construction of hospitals for modern and affordable healthcare
To further improve the health services in Wardha district, it was decided in 2023 to build a 300-bed general hospital in Talegaon. In July 2025, the Devendra Fadnavis government granted administrative approval for the construction of the hospital’s main building and accommodation at a cost of Rs 155.84 crore. A few months before this, in February 2025, the government had approved a Rs 26 crore project for the construction of a 30-bed rural hospital at Anji (Mothi). These hospital projects will enable the patients of rural and remote areas of Wardha to get quality and affordable medical services at the local level. Along with strengthening the health system in the district, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has generously helped the critically ill and economically weaker patients through the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund. From January 1 to August 12 in 2025, over Rs.32 lakh in assistance has been provided to around 37 patients through the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund.
Assistance to farmers through Shetkari Bhawan, Citrus Estate
The Devendra Fadnavis government has also taken effective steps aimed at Wardha agriculture development. Under the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Shetkari Bhavan Yojana, Rs 1.51 crore and Rs 1.28 crore have been sanctioned for the construction of new Shetkari Bhawans at Sindi and Hinganghat in the district, respectively. In August 2024, the orange orchards in the Arvi taluka were devastated due to a cloudburst, and the owners were faced with heavy financial losses. In December 2024, a decision was taken in a state cabinet meeting to compensate the orchard owners of Arvi taluka. To implement this decision, the Devendra Fadnavis government disbursed an amount of over Rs 10 crore in January 2025. Along with this, a decision, taken in March 2019 to set up a citrus estate project at Talegaon Shyamjipant to help the orange growers, was approved in the state cabinet meeting. This project with chain of fruit processing units, cold storage, export, and marketing assistance will greatly benefit the fruit growers of Wardha in future.
Push for Wardha infrastructure development to enable faster economic growth
Wardha district has also taken a big leap in infrastructure development. The Wardha Dry Port, currently under construction in Sindi, is a good example of that. Another big project is Wardha logistics hub, coming up on an area of 346 acres. These will turn Wardha into a trade and shipping hub for the entire Central India. The foundation stone of this dry port was laid on 2 October 2017 by Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The capacity of this dry port is 20 thousand TEU. This will create new employment opportunities for the youth of Wardha.
Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway is proving to be very useful in boosting logistics chains in Wardha and adjoining areas. In the coming days, Wardha district will be directly connected to Vadhavan port through Shaktipeeth highway. This will create a golden opportunity for the Wardha district to become the logistics hub of Central India. As both the Samruddhi Highway and the Shaktipeeth Mahamarg pass through the Wardha district, the industrial and commercial importance of this district has increased. As a result, water supply schemes were planned to ensure the availability of water in the Karanja Industrial Area. When it comes to agriculture, several irrigation schemes have been started to boost irrigation in the state. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been personally monitoring the works of the Wadhan-Pimplakhuta Upsa Irrigation Scheme, Arvi Upsa Irrigation Scheme, and Ashti Upsa Irrigation Scheme. He reviewed these schemes in a meeting held in Mumbai in May 2025. After the implementation of these schemes, water will be available to thousands of hectares of farmlands in the district, which will lead to a huge increase in agricultural production.
Significant improvement in administrative facilities
The administrative facilities of Wardha district have also improved significantly. A new green building has been constructed for the Sub-Regional Transport Office. Apart from this, a new building for the Tribal Integrated Development Project Office has also been started. This will enable the local tribals to inquire and receive the governance services from Wardha only, without having to visit Nagpur. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated both the buildings on 12 May 2025. Wardha district is also witnessing a surge in the generation of renewable energy. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana Abhiyan, 70 new solar power sets were installed in the district on one day in June. This has provided free and clean energy to local households. Thus far, more than six thousand solar sets have been installed in the Wardha
Also, as announced by the then Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his budget speech for 2023-24, administrative approval of Rs.18 crore 97 thousand 275 was given in March 2025 for the development of the shrine in Sri Govindaprabhu Devasthan in Bishnur taluka of Wardha district. Apart from this, the acceleration of the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway project, laying of the fourth railway line between Wardha and Ballarshah, the work of removing 3 lakh cubic meters of silt from 24 ponds for water conservation and the decision to freehold leased properties in the Wardha Ramnagar area are all examples of the different types of development works in the Wardha district. From being a laid back district living on agriculture, Wardha is emerging as a logistics hub and a center for industrial activities. This transformation is becoming possible because of the vision and action of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
