There have been many prudent decisions taken by the Devendra Fadnavis government for Chandrapur district development. The projects launched for the health care, education, infrastructure, irrigation and rural development, and to provide a faster justice system for the people of Chandrapur speak volumes of Devendra Fadnavis’s initiatives for the all-round development of the district.
Known for its coal mines and Tiger reserve, the Chandrapur district also houses the great Anandwan Ashram, founded in 1949 by the famous social activist late Baba Amte. This is a temple of humanity, where lepers and disabled from downtrodden sections of society are provided home, treatment, and livelihood. The Devendra Fadnavis government has taken a major decision to increase the financial assistance for the inmates and also provide other grants to help this institution carry out its mission. Earlier, inmates (patients) in this ashram were given an assistance of Rs. 2,200 per head by the government since 2012. The present Fadnavis government has decided to hike this assistance to Rs 6,000 for every inmate of Anandwan. At the same time, the rehabilitation subsidy for each patient has also been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000. With this decision, the government has given new life to the work of Anandwan Ashram. Another important thing is that the government has also approved Rs 10 crore towards making a corpus fund for Anandwan Ashram and made provision for another 65 crore for the same in phases through other means. With this fund, a skill development centre and housing for 500 residents will be built in Anandwan. While the central government has pledged to make India leprosy-free by 2027, Devendra Fadnavis’s initiatives for cure and eradication of leprosy from Maharashtra by helping institutes like Anandwan Sanstha is commendable.
Affordable cancer treatment will be available in Chandrapur!
The Devendra Fadnavis government has done a great service for the people of Chandrapur in the form of a cancer hospital. A large number of cancer patients are from Chandrapur. Earlier, these patients had to go to Nagpur or Mumbai for treatment. Many patients were deprived of treatment due to the financial crisis. To change this situation, the state government on June 5, 2018, decided to build a 100-bed state-of-the-art cancer hospital in collaboration with Tata Trust Cancer Centre and Chandrapur District Mineral Foundation. For this hospital, the state government has given 10 acres of land on lease for 30 years at the rate of just one rupee per year. Not only this, the government has also waived off the stamp duty required for this lease agreement. This decision of the government has given hope to many needy patients for getting best treatment locally. Earlier, the government had started a medical college with 100 students capacity and a hospital of 500 beds in Chandrapur. Chandrapur Cancer Hospital will be built in the premises of this hospital.
An Agriculture College to Train on Modern Farming Techniques
In the field of education, the government has also taken special initiatives to give the farmers and rural youth of Mul taluka a new direction in the future agricultural techniques. On January 29, 2019, the state cabinet approved the establishment of an agriculture college in Mul. The intake capacity of this college has been fixed at 60 students and for this, the creation of 110 new posts has been approved. A total expenditure of Rs 63.48 crore has been approved for this agriculture college, which will offer the students of the district opportunities to avail vocational agriculture courses near their homes.
In terms of infrastructure, a large amount of development work was also done in Chimur and Nagbhid taluka of Chandrapur. In August 2024, the then Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone online for development projects worth Rs 438 crore. This included construction of roads and drains, repair of sub-divisional offices, repair of sub-district hospitals, construction of Talathi offices, construction of government rest houses, construction of auditoriums, as well as funds required for purchase of land from railway. All these works will help in improving the quality of life of the citizens of Chandrapur.
The decision of the Devendra Fadnavis government to implement the Sinchana Vihir Yojana is also very important for the farmers. The scheme was launched in 2016, but due to some problems, the beneficiaries could not get the amount. After the elections, there was a change in government. And also during the Corona epidemic, this scheme along with many others, was abandoned due to scarcity of funds. However, after the 2024 elections, the Mahayuti government 2.0 came to power in the state. As soon as Devendra Fadnavis took over the leadership of the new government, he immediately distributed a fund of Rs 8 crore 25 lakh to the irrigation department of Chandrapur Zilla Parishad and directed to complete the target of 330 irrigation wells from it. This decision will help Chandrapur Irrigation Scheme to irrigate more areas of land and provide opportunities to the farmers to grow double and triple crops.
To facilitate the people of Chandrapur with a faster judicial process, emphasis has been laid on increasing judicial facilities in Chandrapur. A sum of Rs 1 crore 71 lakh 960 has been sanctioned for construction of Lawyers Hall (Ground + One Floor) in the Court Complex at Ballarpur. This decision has been taken on the recommendation of the Bombay High Court and this facility will be very useful for local lawyers. Also, a fund of Rs 4 crore 25 lakh has been approved for the construction of separate buildings for 20 gram panchayats of the district under the ‘Balasaheb Thackeray Smriti Matoshree Gram Panchayat Bandhani Yojana’ to build offices for those gram panchayats which do not have offices. As many as 20 gram panchayats of Bhadravati, Warora, Rajura, Gondpipri, Jivti, Korpana, Chimur, Nagbhid, Ballarpur and Pombhurna taluks have been included in the scheme. Through the Chandrapur Gram Panchayat Yojana, the functioning of local self-government bodies in each village will be further strengthened.
Apart from this, a fund of about Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned to build new Shetkari Bhavans for the Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Bhadravati, Gondpipri, Mool, Rajura and Chimur. This will create necessary modern facilities for the business transactions of the farmers. The State Government has disbursed a fund of Rs.10.20 crore in the financial year 2025-26 for the establishment of Bamboo Research and Training Centre (Bamboo Research Centre Chichpalli) at Chichpalli in Chandrapur Taluka. This initiative will encourage training, production and marketing of eco-friendly bamboo products and employment generation.
The Devendra Fadnavis government’s development initiatives for Chandrapur are the testimony of its all-round growth focus for the district and are designed to meet the citizens’ needs and open long-term prospects. Initiatives in the sectors, such as health, education, the justice system, and basic infrastructure, will go a long way to give the district a new direction.
