Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged a steady flow of development to all corners of Vidarbha and approved major road and expressway projects in this region. Nagpur, being the regional hub, will naturally have these highways pass through or originate at it to ensure improved communication with the remote districts in Vidarbha. These expressways will unlock new avenues for socio-economic growth in both Nagpur and the wider Vidarbha region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a recent meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee (held on October 1, 2025), approval was granted for a 204-kilometer-long expressway connecting Nagpur to Chandrapur (the Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway). This highway will be a four-lane facility, entirely made of cement concrete. An expenditure of \u20b92,353 crore has been sanctioned for this project. While the 192 km main high-speed corridor for this project will run from Seldoh interchange on the Samruddhi Expressway to Navegaon More on the Durg-Hyderabad highway, an 11.9 km long linking road will connect Chandrapur district to this expressway corridor at Navegaon More, thus completing the nearly 204 km route to channelise progress to Chandrapur through this development corridor. However, CM Fadnavis has a similar vision for Gadchiroli too by using this stretch of high-speed corridor. He suggested a greenfield road project from Navegaon More to the Surajgar iron Project in Gadchiroli, so that the remote areas of the tribal-dominated Gadchiroli district will be integrated into the mainstream of development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Much like Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis envisioned a comprehensive progress across the regions through the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway<\/a>, the approvals of new roads and highways through Vidarbha are backed by a grand vision of fostering a holistic ecosystem of development covering the remote districts in this region. Moving towards this goal, he followed the philosophy that roads should be constructed with futuristic planning to serve as the central plank for the development of the entire region and accordingly prioritized planned land acquisition, eco-friendly development, and the creation of employment opportunities for local residents at every stage of this highway project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Infrastructure is the driver of development. Under the Fadnavis government, Vidarbha has seen massive road infrastructure projects including the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway, the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Highway<\/a>, the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway, and the Bhandara-Gadchiroli Highway to ensure that the benefits of development reach every taluka and village in the region. Concurrently, a review was also conducted regarding improving the connectivity within the region by constructing high-speed access-controlled highways to ensure fast access from every district to the regional capital Nagpur. It is estimated that \u20b918,539 crore will be spent on the 162-km Nagpur-Gondia highway, and \u20b910,298 crore on the 94-km Bhandara-Gadchiroli highway; both projects are poised to play a pivotal role in accelerating the development of Eastern Vidarbha. Devendra Fadnavis is placing strong emphasis on the timely completion of all these development projects. This is because any delay in the execution of such large-scale projects inevitably leads to a significant escalation in costs, thereby increasing the financial burden on the state exchequer. To mitigate such risks, he has consistently focused on ensuring the timely completion of projects by leveraging planned methodologies and modern technology. To this end, he has launched the ‘GatiShakti’ portal, through which all projects are being monitored and tracked in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Chief Minister has also indicated that a new funding model will be devised to mobilize capital for such major infrastructure projects across Maharashtra and Vidarbha.
