The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, is not just another conclave of economic leaders, but has grown into one of the world\u2019s most important events, attended also by the heads of states and large business corporations, to exchange views on the pressing global issues and the ways forward. This forum sets the barometer of the global economic trends and creates the basis for crucial economic and investment decisions. Maharashtra, through its regular visit to the Davos meet over the last few years as part of its global reach for investments, has been able to make a mark as among the most preferred investment destinations in the world with a consistent performance. The Magnetic Maharashtra initiative at home by the Maharashtra government has also helped the cause with the primary branding and strategic networking for the state\u2019s delegation, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In this year\u2019s meet, Maharashtra signed MoUs worth \u20b914.50 lakh crore on the first day, concluding with \u20b930 lakh crore worth of MoUs, plus an additional 7-8 lakh crore in prospects at the end. These agreements will create approximately 1.5 million employment opportunities in the state and pave the way for Maharashtra to reach its target of becoming a 1 trillion dollar economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davos \u2013 A Trend Setter With New Ideas<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Davos World Economic Forum annual meet is also considered an idea incubator, where new thoughts, ideas, and directions often emerge from the global leaders, discussing business, economics, politics, and other subjects. It then rests on the policy makers in the governments to incorporate these thoughts in creating new policies to race ahead others. Global discussions on topics like artificial intelligence, green hydrogen, digital public infrastructure (DPI), etc. have often fueled changes in policies for early adoption in leading countries like India. For Maharashtra, a regular presence at Davos WEF serves two purposes – while it helps us identify the high-potential sectors in advance and plan accordingly, the conference provides image boosting and opportunities for networking with decision makers and other key people to attract investments by showcasing the growth potentials of the state. For example, the state has made an agreement with the Tata Sons for developing an Innovation City in Navi Mumbai to help build an echo system, focused on AI, Semiconductor, and Global Compatibility Centers. Tata Sons will invest \u20b992,000 crore into this project. Similarly, renewable energy is another high-growth sector and the state under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis has taken timely steps to create an echo system for solar energy in the state. Currently, we lead the country in solar projects. Recently, we have created a Guinness World Record by installing 45,911 solar agricultural pumps in just one month. The state of Maharashtra is generating more than 16,000 MW of electricity for farmers through solar projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation drives fast progress. Fostering innovation helps build a competitive, forward-looking economic environment, which acts as a catalyst for attracting investment to a state by reducing risks for investors while signalling high-growth opportunities. At the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the state\u2019s focus on fast adoption of technology innovations, driven by AI, data centers, and digital tools, to strengthen governance and foster economic growth. He mentioned the state\u2019s partnerships with leading tech companies and renowned institutions like MIT and Berkeley. He emphasized Maharashtra’s new identity as India’s startup capital and mentioned the efforts to make the state a global hub for quantum computing and medtech in the near future. Carbon emission is one of the major concerns against rapid industrialization. Maharashtra under Devendra Fadnavis had initiated a shift towards green energy in the state from conventional thermal power. Today, Maharashtra is at the forefront of the “green transition” worldwide, having set a target of obtaining 52% of its electricity from non-conventional sources by 2030. Maharashtra is also making significant progress in the field of green hydrogen and electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the state government has signed a \u20b91.1 lakh crore agreement with ArcelorMittal, which will enable the production of environmentally friendly steel in Gadchiroli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of Davos reflects investors\u2019 confidence in Maharashtra. The signing of MoUs worth over \u20b914.50 lakh crore on the first day of the 2026 Economic Summit highlights global recognition for growth opportunities in India and for Maharashtra as the engine of India\u2019s growth story. Some of these investments are in critical sectors like green energy, advanced manufacturing, and semiconductors, which will create over 1.5 million jobs in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s visit stood out as a phenomenal success, with MoUs worth \u20b914.50 lakh crore signed on the first day alone and aggregating \u20b930 lakh crore in the end. The state has been able to attract cutting-edge technology, global expertise, and foreign investment to boost the state\u2019s growth and development, paving the way for Viksit Maharashtra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
